This past Saturday, Nurko and his team brought the Discovery tour to Concord Music Hall right here in Chicago. Coming off of the announcement of his sophomore EP “Discovery” and a string of single releases, Nurko set sail to put on 22 shows across North America, and we were lucky enough to be at one of the last stops of the two-month-long trek. A set filled with drum pad percussion, emotionally driven melodic bass, and neck-breaking head banging, as well as an awesome supporting set from Midnight Kids, made for a perfect night in this city’s vast electronic scene.
Before Nurko’s set was Midnight Kids, a rising talent from Los Angeles who was given the support role for the majority of this tour. MK read and warmed up the crowd perfectly with tracks within the melodic bass genre as well as tracks of his own in One More Night and Find Our Way. He even threw in some Drum and Bass in there which got a hyped reaction from the crowd.
The fans really showed up for Nurko as the rail was lined with his own branded baseball jerseys and enough movement to make you feel the heat even on the side balconies. Spinning his newly released singles Save Me and Eternity, as well as popular cuts from Illenium, Said the Sky, and ISOxo, Nurko delivered a fantastic set deep into the night for the Concord crowd. Navigating the venue was tough at times, as the people who had enough room to dance really used their space while feeling the music. The power to do that to people through music is nothing to gloss over. A question commonly asked throughout the night over the microphone, “Where my motherf***ing headbangers at?!” right here, sir Nurko. Right here. I’m still sore.
