Acclaimed Evanston based singer, rapper and producer Kweku Collins has released a new album in wake of an almost five year hiatus titled, ‘Then Spring.’
Kweku has grown a lot since we at Pursuit of Dopeness last caught up with him via interview just a month before the release of 2017 album ‘Grey,’ which not only was an excellent addition to his discography but showed his willingness to defy genre boundaries.
On ‘Then Spring’ Kweku doubles down on the eclectic nature of his former projects, unveiling sounds of Folk, Indie, Electronica, Hip-Hop and a host of others.
In a detailed Instagram post about the project Kweku revealed the influence skateboarding had on the album, saying “I made this album reflecting on how skating has brought together so many different people, from so many different lives, and “united” us through this love.” For the sake of brevity the post will be linked here, I urge you to read before delving into this album.
His goal of merging genre and experience goes over very well on this project, making this one a standout project of the year so far. Some of our favorite tracks are, “Dig (Don’t Let Go),” “Storms” ft. Tatiana Hazel, and “The Starship Wednesday (Afterglow).”
Additionally Kweku will be performing ‘Then Spring’ in its entirety on March 3rd at Sleeping Village, tickets are available here.
