Jamaica, Queens-raised rapper, songwriter, and producer deem spencer has shared a wonderful new single along with the announcement of his forthcoming album adultSW!M which is set to drop on March 3rd. “27” (feat. DaVionne) is the second offering from adultSW!M following the first single, “To Have It All”.
deem’s minimal and optimistic approach to music shines through on “27”. This melancholic effort has hopeful undertones rising from deem’s past pain and experiences. DaVionne’s closing verse ties this cut together perfectly as their stunningly gorgeous effort provides a perfect duality to deem’s contribution to “27”. deem has been inspiring his listeners for several years now and I know that their inspiration will continue to spread for years to come.
“deem spencer dives within the depths of nostalgia, reconciling with the loss of his grandfather on ’27.’ The song also contextualizes deem’s fears of the 27 Club theory, where a thread of artists including Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin have died at age 27. On the Spenser Williams-produced song, deem looks inward and gets honest about his anxieties, allowing himself to take form through the burden of grief,” deem’s team says.
