Prolific Chicago artist Vic Mensa has dropped a very pretty and atmospheric track titled “STRAWBERRY LOUIS VUITTON.” The track features a smooth Thundercat bridge near the latter end of the track as well as singer Maeta coming through on the backing vocals.
Vic has explained how this track was written after watching one of Virgil’s last films. In a statement about the song Vic said, “When I heard the sample it just spoke to me, so I chopped it, made the beat, and wrote the song on the spot. It was really a freestyle. I always imagined Thundercat doing the bridge…we recorded it when he was on tour and I was doing my art show in Chicago. When Virgil passed away I kind of felt like he had given this song to me; the gift that keeps on giving, in a way.”
This is Vic’s first release of 2023 following an incredible string of philanthropy work this past year. Whether it be the extremely successful Black Star Line Festival generating revenue for Boreholes being built in communities throughout Ghana, or the $10,000 worth of gas Vic donated to southside neighborhoods of Chicago, Vic continues to show how truly dedicated he is to humanitarianism.
“STRAWBERRY LOUIS VUITTON” is accompanied by a visually beautiful music video directed by Danielle DeGrasse-Alston. It features Vic skydiving through the air bearing a guitar with a bright and summery color palette.
