Similarly to a lot of other Cochise fans, I was first introduced to the humorous 24-year-old rapper through his hit 2021 single “Tell Em”, and I’ve only grown as a fan since. Cochise’s 2021 album ‘Benbow Crescent’ gives listeners an energetic listening experience featuring a wide range of sounds that are simply addictive. Playfully bouncy tracks off of ‘Benbow Crescent’ such as “Knicks”, “PLASMA”, and “Hatchback” are truly enjoyable tracks that are far from your average rap track; he continued this playful theme into his sophomore studio album ‘THE INSPECTION’ as well as his latest single “COOK UP”.
“COOK UP” is a short-but-sweet release that will be on repeat if you enjoy artists like Lucki, UnoTheActivist, and SoFaygo. An Instagram post teasing fans with a snippet of this track earlier this week built up a lot of anticipation and although the song barely pushes two minutes, I’d say Cochise delivered, per usual, throughout this quick cut. Stunningly ethereal production and hi-hat-like bars combine for a track that will take you on a quick trip to space.
Cochise is an unbelievably versatile vocalist and his unique cadence has set him apart from the pack, but I’ve consistently been impressed with the quality and cohesiveness of the production throughout his discography. Very few beats seem out of place and I’m consistently revisiting Cochise songs to gain a boost of dopamine through his eclectic style and uptempo production.
