The World Cup kicks off this weekend with some of the best soccer/football players filling stadiums in Qatar to battle it out until they crown a new champion of the world.
While we can spend hours debating who should win the tournament, the POD team decided to consider another aspect of the game that lends itself to subjective discussion. With our King of the Kits series, we have sought out to find which team will be sporting the best-looking kits (or jerseys) of the 2022 World Cup.
The “tournament” brackets will play out exactly like how teams have been pooled into their respective groups in Qatar and they will eliminate themselves down to the final using the exact same layout (and just to avoid any discrepancies, we used FIFA’s own bracket challenge to play this out), while we had four members of our staff team to vote in each round in place figuring out what the goal differential would be in this hypothetical situation. Learn more about we scored each match-up.
The criteria:
- Choose the best kit to represent the team (home vs. away)
- Each team’s best kit will face-off with the opponent’s best kit, but if we don’t have a clear winner, they face-off again with their second-best kit (no third kits)
- If the face-off between the second-best kits remains in a draw, we flip a coin (ain’t that what penalty kicks feel like?)
- Only in the group stage, teams get 3 points per win and 1 point per draw
- The top 2 teams with the most points of their group will continue to the Round of 16
So check out which team wound up becoming our King of the Kit of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
