The Turnstile Love Connection Tour hit Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom, and with it came one of the wildest concert nights of the year we’ve experienced so far. Turnstile are one of the most exciting bands to come up in recent years with the resurgence of Punk, and it was quickly proven why the Baltimore group has generated such hype.
Snail Mail was a smooth and warm opening to start the night. The crowd got to ease in and prepare themselves or the crazy night ahead. Even with technical issues, the crowd still cheered on the band and was super supportive.
JPEGMAFIA came next and did not hold back any energy whatsoever. The crowd was going absolutely nuts and screaming his lyrics and yelling “PEGGy PEGGY” throughout his set. Hilariously, he did an a cappella auto-tuned cover of famous Pop song “Call Me Maybe” and there was a funny moshpit in the center to go along with it.
Finally it was time for Turnstile, which treated fans to music from all their albums. There were multiple mosh pits throughout the floor with people of all ages. The band had to take breaks after songs because they put so much energy into each performance, and the crowd matched that. Best of all, the energy did not die down throughout the night.
So many crowd surfers were making their way to the stage, getting picked up by security and going right back in the crowd to do it again. Lots of OG fans including me (or what the kids refer to these days as “elder emos”) sat up in the balcony watching all the craziness happen.
