John Lennon Sings Vocals on Previously-Unreleased Demo of The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine”

The Beatles are set to release their reissue of 1966’s game-changing LP Revolver, and today we’re getting a previously unreleased early demo of “Yellow Submarine” that will make you see that iconic, jolly song in a new light.

Before the horns and Ringo’s vocals, the newly surfaced demo “Yellow Submarine (Songwriting Work Tape / Part 1)” simply features John Lennon and an acoustic guitar. There’s something so satisfying hearing the instantly-recognizable opening line of “in the place where I was born” coming through Lennon’s voice, which hits even better when you hear it followed by “no one cares, no one cares” in what could’ve been a more sentimental Folk tune.

The expanded edition of Revolver will be released on October 28. Physical and deluxe editions will feature new mixes of songs done with the album’s original mono master tapes, demos, a 100-page hardbound book, and more.
