Legendary Chicago outfit Whitney have returned to share a new single titled, “BLUE” in conjunction with a B-side titled “TWIRL.” Both tracks are going to be on the duo’s forthcoming project titled ‘SPARK’ alongside precursory single “REAL LOVE.”
With these two tracks it seems Whitney is exploring a more radical reinvention with dreamlike pop elements rather than their famed indie folk sound. After seeing these songs previewed at their Lincoln Hall show last December it seems they are confident in the product they have created in ‘SPARK’ after such an incredible performance. In a statement about “TWIRL” the band wrote “John Congleton and Brad Cook really created the framework for us to explore a new palette.” Additionally the band went on to say, “We wrote BLUE at what I would now call ‘peak isolation’ at the beginning of 2021. In hindsight. It’s clear that we were attempting to manifest a different set of circumstances through the fantasy of love.”
Their forthcoming album ‘SPARK’ is set to be released on September 16th through their longtime label Secretly Canadian. In addition to releasing these tracks, Whitney performed their lead single “REAL LOVE” on Jimmy Kimmel just over a week ago.
