Chicago based band The Slaps have released their long-anticipated debut album ‘Tomato Tree.’ This album comes in tandem with a nationwide tour as their Chicago date is approaching in just under two weeks. This album is 12 tracks long and features an eclectic range of genres that meld together to create an experience of sedative dreaminess executed with both warmth and precision.
From having a degree of both personal and geographical connections with this band, I have had the pleasure to observe their career nearly since its inception, and the artistic amelioration they have undergone has been incredible to watch. This sentiment manifests itself perfectly on tracks like “Iron Bone” and “It’s Dense,” where they expand on their often described as “beach blues” sound both instrumentally and vocally. Additionally tracks like “Powder” and “Around” (which is the third installment of a three-part series) are stripped back acoustic ballads that are executed with this beautiful intimacy. Other tracks are some excellent psychedelic tinged lo-fi rock, while they even experiment with a pretty badass industrial sound on track “Autotelic.”
I can personally vouch for their live performances, as they constantly outperform themselves every time I see them live. If you find yourself in Chicago for their Sleeping Village show you should definitely come out. Honestly, if you live in any major city they probably have an upcoming tour stop there.
