Joey Purp Announces New Mixtape 'UpLate' and Shares "OUTSIDE"

One of our favorite Chicago rappers, Joey Purp is announcing today his next mixtape. The project will be entitled UpLate and it will be a self-release that’s dropping on September 24th.

UpLate will see Joey Purp make his production debut, fitting his name in the credits beside go-to collaborators like Knox Fortune, Peter Cottontale, Smoko Ono, and Thelonious Martin, plus Dex Lvl. Most notably, the mixtape will not include any features.

Along with sharing this news, Purp is sharing the lead track/music video “OUTSIDE.” This song with the buzzing bass and ticking drums was produced by Smoko Ono & Joey Purp, and already feels like a dope track for a night at the club. Check out Joey Purp’s video for “OUTSIDE” above.

We really just wanted to expand. Expand on everything we’ve done. Expand on our sound. Expand Chicago’s sound and what that means to the world. We wanted to give a glimpse at our history and our future at the same time you know. There’s a saying, you don’t know where you’re going unless you know where you came from. In hip hop, we say it ain’t where you from it’s where you at. So this is where we’re from and this is where we’re at and this is where we’re going. And this is what it sounds like.
