ALBUM REVIEW: OUR TOP 5 TRACKS ON PI’ERRE BOURNE’S ‘The Life of Pi’erre 5″

Atlanta native Pi’erre Bourne has released the newest installment of his The Life of Pi’erre series, expertly showcasing both his producing and rapping abilities. Pi’erre’s rise to fame in the mainstream came from producing tracks for the likes of 21 Savage, Young Nudy and most notably Playboi Carti. His electronic and synth heavy production is new, yet inhibits nostalgia when you listen to it. This album was originally teased with singles Groceries and 4U both paired with music videos.

With all of these accolades in the field of production his ability to rap is often overlooked, but after listening to this project I can confidently say that the man can rap. Pi’erre is steadily becoming aware of ways to exemplify his psychedelic production like artists such as Playboi Carti have done so well in the past. It’s beautiful to see that this album boasts appearances from celebrated artists Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert, yet neither of them outshine Pi’erre. This album is by far the best thing we’ve heard from Pi’erre as a solo artist, and I am thrilled to hear more from him in the future.

Below are some of my favorite tracks from The Life of Pi’erre 5!

“Switching Lanes” (feat. Playboi Carti)

The production for this track is immaculate. The track features these pulsating synths that really drive home that aforementioned psychedelic vibe Pi’erre does so well. The Playboi Carti feature is admittedly a little dry but it’s dope to see him showing love to Pi’erre, especially because his presence in music has grown seldom.

Couch

It’s very refreshing to hear Pi’erre rap about his past rather than the typical braggadocio of his lavish life. I also love the production on this one as well, which reminds me of something straight out of Mario 64.

42

Perhaps my favorite track on the record, 42 is what we want from Pi’erre not only as a producer, but a rapper as well. The jangly and bright production reads as a summer anthem, and while the lyrics aren’t anything to write home about, I still love how his flow so effortlessly rides the beat.

Biology 101

This track has been tossed around the Pi’erre Bourne community through teasers and leaks alike, so I am glad us fans are able to hear the track finished with proper mixing. This track has a lot of attitude and swagger, and showcases Pi’erre’s vocal range to an extent as well.

Practice

Similar to 42, Practice’s production is very reminiscent of something you would hear in a retro video game. The bars on this track may be the best of the whole project, including clever pop culture references to Spongebob, Austin Powers and Soulja Boy.

It was very difficult for me to choose only five tracks to write about so I suggest you check out the entire project below!
