To celebrate what would’ve been his 74th birthday, BBE Music is announcing its tribute album to David Bowie. Entitled Modern Love, it will arrive on May 28 and will feature covers by artists like Helado Negro, Khruangbin, and L’Rain, among others.
Along with the announcement comes We Are KING’s take on the iconic “Space Oddity.” The production creates an airy ambience, with drums that hit like they’ll make you bounce off into space and those vocals will make you want to float away to the vibes. The project was curated by music executive and DJ Drew McFadden, alongside BBE Music founder Peter Adarkwah. McFadden shared:
I felt that the connection between Bowie and R&B, jazz, funk, gospel and all things soulful, had never really been explored before — at least not so much in covers, which tend to lean more towards rock and pop… Certainly, there’s been plenty of Bowie covers over the years, but none that have really tapped into what seems to have been a big part of his core musical style and direction.
