If they aren’t already, LOWERLIPDRIP should absolutely be on your radar. Dew Haydn and blackrobeBLACKROBES are young, Chicago-based artists that have shown impressive levels of consistency and promise throughout their short discography.
Creativity flows within LLD’s in-house production and lyricism; the duo impressed listeners during their earliest offerings Home and Fred Hampton, and have steadily progressed in quality and confidence through I Put My Whole Life on the Internet, Everything Is Fare and now, their fifth offering, V.
V is yet another signature LOWERLIPDRIP two-pack, it’s the duo’s second effort of 2020. “FLAWLESS” features smooth raps over neck-breaking production, these two don’t waste any opportunity to make their voices heard on each released track. The hook on this cut reminds me of a hook from 808s-era Kanye that touches a dope electro-pop feel for a moment, before promptly returning to gritty hip-hop production.
“SCANDALOUS” follows suit with intricate production and impressive rhyme schemes throughout. blackrobeBLACKROBES floats over the production with a unique first verse. After the hook, Dew Haydn spits, “We 5/5 no Cinco de Mayo”, and honestly, I’ve got to agree with this. I can’t wait to see what these talents have in store for us in 2021.
