Billie Eilish was just getting started with her 2020 arena tour when the coronavirus pandemic came and forced all shows to cancel. But it only took one show for the tour to spark a frenzy of reactions thanks to a short film she played on opening night in Miami in which she tackles body shaming and how her own appearance has been the subject of criticism.
The spoken-word clip is entitled Not My Responsibility, and in it Billie sheds layers of clothing as she recites lines like “though you’ve never seen my body you still judge it” and “is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?” The singer ultimately sinks into a dark liquid and reemerges covered with it for the delivery of that last line.
