The Strokes are cooking something, and it involves Basquiat… So, the only information we have so far is a clip they posted to their social accounts today which lacks any music but does feature Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Bird on Money” in the background emblazoned with “The New Abnormal The Strokes.”
Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr gave a tad bit more with his tease, saying on his Instagram “You think you’ve been waiting
But the wait has just begun…”
If you’re a fan of The Strokes, right now is a pretty good time to be excited about what this could mean. On top of the 2020 North American shows that they’ve announced so far including a Bernie Sanders rally in New Hampshire, the band informally announced a new album is coming out soon before giving a live debut to “Ode to the Mets” during their New Year’s Show.
Hopefully this is part of what Julian Casablancas was referring to when he said the band were “unfrozen” in 2020.
