Pearl Jam are back! The iconic band have announced their eleventh studio album, Gigaton, which will be released via Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records on March 27, 2020 in the US (internationally via UMG). The follow-up to 2013’s Lightning Bolt was produced by Josh Evans and the band itself.
While the news doesn’t come equipped with a lead single, which the press release reveals is entitled “Dance of the Clairvoyants” and will be released in the coming weeks, what we do get is a new tour! The Spring 2020 tour will start off March 18 in Toronto and will hit North American cities like Ottawa, Baltimore, Nashville, and Phoenix. LA and Oakland are the two lucky cities on this run that are getting two shows.
What’s surprising is that there’s no Chicago stop, considering that the band likes playing at Wrigley Field, the home of lead singer Eddie Vedder’s beloved Chicago Cubs. My skeptical mind reasons that this only means one of two things: either Pearl Jam are going to be announcing a summer stadium tour OR….. Vedder’s hometown show will be at Grant Park headlining Lollapalooza after more than a decade of not playing the American version of the fest. Lowkey, I’d like it to be the latter.

Gigaton is available for pre-order now at www.pearljam.com. Mike McCready said about the new album in the press release:
Making this record was a long journey… It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.
