My beloved Club América is looking to avenge its loss in the 2019-20 Apertura final by way of penalties, and they’ll be doing so with a new third kit option. The new kit has a turquoise base like some of the other jerseys from this season that have earned them praise, but adding that tri-colored triangle pattern that makes a V across the chest as seen on the current home kit.
I like the colors used all over the shirt and I appreciate that the sponsors are in black again over what was customary in previous years of allowing these brands to keep their logo’s colors intact, ignoring whether these clashed with the kit or not. It doesn’t follow tradition of the club, but as far as third kits go, this is the kind of creativity that I love to see.

In this case, the color has deeper roots than current fashion trends. As the press release notes, turquoise was chosen as a nod to ancient civilizations of Mexico (and Mesoamerica generally) which valued the mineral more than gold and was viewed as the maximum expression of beauty. The club’s honoring of the Aztec Empire in their shirt also includes the iconic double-headed serpent on the red strip on the back coming down from the collar.
