DJ Premier has worked to release a revival album following Guru’s death in 2010, and he does well with One of the Best Yet featuring 16 tracks of that signature Gang Starr vibe. It’s been over a decade since they released their last album, The Ownerz, and although it sounds like an odd era to drop this album, you can’t deny the music.
The group comes back with a stellar effort studded with a wide range of features. Tapping into their old school network, Premier recruited Q-Tip, Ne-Yo, Talib Kweli, among others while giving new rappers such as J. Cole and Royce da 5’9″ a chance to appear on such an important album.
Getting new Gang Starr tracks in 2019 is honestly a blessing. Whether or not this will be their last album, they’ve undoubtedly solidified their spot among the greats in hip-hop.
