POD faves Post Animal just dropped a banger today entitled “Safe or Not (Extended Mix).” The Chicago outfit shared the track just in time to coincide with their North American tour with fellow wild onion-ers Twin Peaks.
The 6-minute joint is another psychedelic adventure captained in a style I’ve come to love from the Post Animal fellas, but now they’ve added a dancier vibe to their Prog leanings. There’s a Latin flavor in this one too, with that first musical break having a beat that fans of Reggaeton would appreciate and then there’s the guitar part that sounds pretty Spanish itself. This song feels like the tasty stuff that would come out in the 60s and 70s that showed off what bands can do when they find a good groove and built something fun around it.
Speaking about the track in a press release, the band says:
We wanted to leave the content more open ended for the listener to navigate, but it’s about self reflection… We played around with more somber, serious lyrical content over a particularly dance-oriented song to juxtapose how one may feel internally versus how they’re outwardly portraying themselves in the moment.
Stream it via its expectedly trippy lyric video below.
We already told y’all about their current tour with Twin Peaks, but if you’re reading this from the UK and/or Europe, Post Animal will be a real treat as the supporting act for Cage The Elephant’s run out there.
