Immortal Technique, legendary wordsmith and hip-hop artist, came through to the Metro to play a powerful set full of his greatest hits, along with some tracks Tech promised were to only be performed on the Chicago stop of his tour.
Supporting Tech were openers Poison Pen and Chino XL, both longtime collaborators of Immortal Technique. Both artists performed their first few tracks in the pit to give the crowd some love, it was dope to see them interact directly with the crowd while spitting with no backing vocals.
None of the artists had backing vocals throughout the night, and a few actual disc jockeys even played some dope DJ sets between each artist’s set. It was refreshing to see a night of pure hip-hop performers with a crowd full of other hip-hop heads.
To put it simply, Immortal Technique is amazing. He’s got an unmatched pen with precise, aggressive flow and, to me, his performance solidified him as one of the best rap artists to come up in this century.
