Indie music vets Vampire Weekend came through Seattle on Friday night and hammered out a 28-song setlist that had a jam-packed WaMu Theater realizing exactly how much they missed the beloved “Modern Vampires of the City”.
En route to wrapping up the first leg to their Father of the Bride Tour, the band performed in Seattle for the first time in four years, with the then-trio taking a break from performing to revamp and reload for their next release.
In that absence, starting 2014, Vampire Weekend won a Grammy and lost founding member Rostam Batmanglij. 2018 came and went, an eventful year in which the band brought on fresh talent and recorded what is now their fourth studio album, Father of the Bride, released May 2019.
Considering the group’s two decade-spanning discography, a near 30-song setlist is fair game considering the number of fan-favorite hits they’ve been producing since 2006; queue the classics from Seattle’s set, “A-Punk”, “Walcott”, “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”, “Ofxord Comma”, mixing in new generation hits, “Diane Young”, “Sunflower”, “Hannah Hunt”, “Unbelievers”. Ezra Koenig and co. are continuing their FOTB tour deep into 2020, all while further establishing their command in the world of alternate music.
