Anderson .Paak rolled through town over the weekend for a stop at the Riviera Theatre as part of his Andy’s Beach Club Tour.
.Paak stepped down after performing set-opener “The Chase” on drums behind a veil to get to the mic with smoke shooting out of mini cannons. In response to the roar of the crowd after seeing him emerge, the Oxnard, CA artist gleefully spoke into the mic, “Chi-town I told y’all I’d come back but I bet you didn’t think I’d be back with a Grammy!” He set the stage right from the kick-off that this is his moment and that we’re witnessing an artist reaching new heights of fame and critical acclaim.
The rest of the set was filled with highlights from his beach series catalog, including “Heart Don’t Stand a Chance,” “Milk n’ Honey,” “Come Down,” and “Might be” along with cuts from his 2018 album Oxnard like “Who R U?” “Trippy” & “Tints.” My favorite had to be the energetic “Bubblin,” in which .Paak puts on display his rapping abilities. It was the badass moment of the night.
The Free Nationals are also such dope artists, and it was cool to see spotlight get placed on them as they played their “Beauty & Essex” in the middle of the set. The world tour still has a long way to go, so don’t miss out on upcoming dates running through late March.
