The Smashing Pumpkins have released a brand new song called “Knights of Malta.” The track, featuring founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin along with longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder, is also the opener on the band’s forthcoming album SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN.
This one has pretty slow tempo with a decent string arrangement and a solid guitar solo. Also, that vocal accompanying the melody is stuck in my head, which is always a good sign. After hearing it a couple times, this is something I’d like to see live sometime.
The Chicago band will be playing a hometown show at the end of this month for 101WKQX’s The Nights We Stole Christmas, but it’s sold-out so you’d have to try your luck in St. Louis, Tulsa, San Antonio, or Tucson if you want to see them at one of their 30th anniversary celebration shows.
