This week I got to experience my first U2 show, which took place midweek at the United Center, and I immediately understood why they’re such a revered arena rock band.
The set list packed catalog-spanning fan-favorites and tunes from their latest album Songs of Experience, which this tour was supporting. That title also seemed to influence the production for this tour, featuring a massive double-sided screen in the middle of the arena floor that projected animations, comic book-like illustrations, and live feed shots to complement each track and enhance the experience for what every song is meant to have.
As if I needed another example of why this band has such staying power, Bono & company know their way around this kind of setting and they deliver on every front.
