Just a year after releasing their comeback back album Humanz, Gorillaz already have a whole new collection of tracks that will help them release a new album in 2018. The project is entitled The Now Now, it will be released via Warner Bros. Records on June 29th, and it is available for pre-order now with two instant grat songs, “Humility” and “Lake Zurich.”
The album will feature 11 tracks, produced by Gorillaz, with James Ford and Remi Kabaka, and recorded entirely at in London in February this year. The most important update to note from this announcement is that Damon Albarn’s toon crew will do the opposite as the tactic on their previous album and will instead trim down on the guest features, opting instead for making it a primarily in-house affair. George Benson, Snoop Dogg & Jamie Principle are the only collaborators for this album. Oh and they’ve got a new band member named Ace, with the Gangreen Gang member standing in for Murdoc Niccals.
Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn appeared on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music to premiere the “Humility” song & visual. The video features an appearance from Zack Black busking in Venice Beach, CA, and it was directed by Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett.
The group has also announced they will be playing a half-dozen shows in North America as part of their The Now Now Tour. The 2018 tour will start in Toronto on October 8 and will continue to Montreal, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Chicago. The Internet will support on all headline dates, with Little Dragon joining as special guest for the Boston show.
