Donald Glover hosted last night’s episode of SNL while also serving as the musical guest as his alter ego, Childish Gambino.
For his Saturday Night Live performances, Gambino debuted two new songs, the second of which was a track called “This Is America.” The track also made its way online for streaming along with a music video directed by Hiro Murai, who you may recognize from his work directing episodes of Glover’s Atlanta. The video is jarring, with violence and rioting displayed casually almost like an afterthought while Gambino strolls around unbothered by the mayhem… Eventually getting chased out.
SZA can be spotted for second there toward the end.
Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo, Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi, and BlocBoy JB all provided backing vocals on the song. Check out the video above.
