The Weeknd has definitely reached superhero status in the music world that has allowed him to become a Grammy Award winner and an Academy Award-nominated artist, but now he’s given a chance to be a superhero literally.
The Canadian star has joined forces with Marvel Comics to release his first-ever graphic novel—The Weeknd Presents: Starboy. The first issue will arrive on June 13, 2018.
The graphic novel is based on The Weeknd’s GRAMMY® Award-winning double-platinum 2016 album Starboy, and the story follows the titular hero as he fights against cannibalistic criminal mastermind Jack “The Chef” Smiley to save Alphatron. BKA The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye personally penned the story alongside La Mar Taylor, and Christos Gate, with art by Eric Nguyen and Guru-eFX.
Starboy joins an iconic roster of Marvel Comics heroes, including Black Panther, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool, and many more. This is also Tesfaye’s latest contribution to the Marvel Universe, following his track for the Black Panther movie soundtrack, “Pray For Me.” Could this mean we’ll be seeing The Weeknd in a future Avengers movie? I sure as hell hope so.
