Paramore is the latest act to put on a show for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. The group’s stripped down concert featured renditions of “Hard Times,” “26,” and “Fake Happy.”
While the hit song “Hard Times” can justifiably get all the attention here for the way the song is transformed to really showcase the lyrics of dejection, I feel that it’s the second song they played that turned out to be the must-see. As Hayley belts out the line “And they say dreaming is free, but I wouldn’t care what it cost me” with only guitarist Taylor York backing her, you can truly feel the emotions she’s conveying. The heart that goes into a song like this is put on full display here, and it’s the shining performance on their set. “Fake Happy” really brings it full circle, with the band inspiring listeners to be comfortable and true to themselves.
