Chicago’s own, Young Mensah, is back with a new dope track and right away you might recognize the beat. That’s because it contains a sample from the XXYYXX produced track, “About You”, the same sample found on the popular SZA song, “Child’s Play” featuring Chance The Rapper.
Mensah succeeds in making the track his own though by tackling some subject matter that is really important especially after just the other day a white police officer shot a black off duty officer in St. Louis, showing that even joining the force can’t keep you safe from America’s systematic racism and violence. Some hard hitting lyrics include:
“Eye for an eye so I never look through peepholes/cuz where I’m from you get shot through the peephole/screaming fuck 12 they don’t fuck with my people/screaming fuck 12 what they doing is illegal/tryna stay sane and I’m tryna stay peaceful”
