For those who have yet to familiarize themselves with Chicago artist UG Vavy yet, just know that he has yet to miss with any of his singles. If the Chicago rap scene were a game of NBA Jam, the nurse-by-day, rapper/producer-by-night would’ve been on fire a long time ago, and he just extended his hot streak with brand new joint “Gang (Who Are You?).”
UG Vavy has made name for himself with his extremely clever wordplay over super wavy trap production, but this new joint takes both those things to the next level. With an elegantly soft piano sample fused with heavy bass, the beat is reminiscent of something Zaytoven would produce, and features punchlines that would make even Lil Wayne blush, like “Pockets used to be so broke but now that b—h straight out the cast” and “See the doctor’s office close, ain’t no more patience round this way.” “Gang (Who Are You?)” just might be easily be one the best tracks UG’s fairly small, but already impressive discography.
The self-produced song is UG’s first joint since dropping his EP, Preheat 0.5, and if it is any indication that he’s close to dropping his debut mixtape, then one thing is apparent: this summer is going to be a little hotter than usual, and that’s because Fuego Season is officially upon us.
