Saint Mesa is one of Interscope’s most promising new acts and earlier today, the self-taught musician released his first single since dropping his Jungle EP late last year. The EP’s title track got plenty of praise and landed some licensing synchs with various brands. Saint Mesa hopes to build on that success with the release of “Beads.” We had the pleasure of talking to Saint Mesa about his new vibes, upcoming tour dates and much more. Check out our interview and stream “Beads” below.
Congrats on all of the success of your Jungle EP.
The vibes are very dope on your new single “Beads.” How excited are you to drop some new music for the first time in 6 months?
Thanks so much! I’m like unbelievably excited to release new music. I’m so excited to share with you all what is in my brain.
What was your approach to making your new material, considering your EP was the triumphant result of you overcoming an illness?
I would say the process has been very introspective. The new writing process is focusing on personal growth as well as new narratives and story writing.
What was it like working with WHAMS?
I can’t even begin to describe how much I love the WHAMS guys. They’ve changed so much of how I look at music, writing, producing, and being an artist. They’re inspiring and encouraging, and incredibly focused on making music, all politics aside. I owe them so much.
Have you been listening to any artists lately to help inspire you? Can you name any artists that have influenced the work on your new project?
Yeah absolutely, I’ve been listening to a ton of stuff and drawing inspiration from so many sources. I would say, Childish Gambino, Radiohead, Glass Animals, Phil Collins, Animal Collective, Massive Attack, and then lots of traditional tribal world music. Focusing a lot on percussion and atmosphere.
You have a few festivals dates coming up. What can festivalgoers expect from your live set?
I’m really excited for these festivals! First festivals I’ve ever played. I would say come hang and shake your booty. Gonna make it as vibey as possible.
What do you have planned for the rest of the year? Are there any more tour dates for us to look forward to?
No dates on the books yet, but hopefully we’ll be getting some more show dates for y’all soon. Really excited for the rest of the year. New music, more shows, more love and vibes.
