Last week we found out that one of our favorite Chicago bands these days, Whitney will be playing Lolla, and today they have shared a couple of tracks which they wish they would’ve written first themselves. The band have announced a 12″ record featuring covers by psych-pop Dutch duo Lion’s 1975 “You’ve Got A Woman,” and on the B-Side they tackle Dolly Parton’s “Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can).”
The Dolly Parton cover is a delight filled with emotion and nostalgia, though this offering clocks in at just over one minute. Whitney’s take on Lion’s tune is definitely something different, with a distinct 70s vibe, but passed through the filter of the band behind Light Upon The Lake. It’s groovy, sexy, and kind of dark; they’re not overtly menacing, but they sure are flirting with that idea. The 12″ EP is available now digitally & on tour; available in stores on June 2nd via Secretly Canadian.
