Lil Chano from 79th further showed off his love for his hometown of Chicago today at a press conference he held at Westcott Elementary School, 2 blocks away from where he grew up. In response to a meeting with IL governor Bruce Rauner to discuss public education plus other “important issues affecting” the city of Chicago that garnered little beyond vague answers, Chance The Rapper took today’s event to declare he has vowed to lead efforts towards helping Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and it all starts with a donation of $1 million.
Declaring, “Our kids should not be held hostage, because of political positioning,” Chance detailed how CPS will be affected if action isn’t taken immediately. “If the governor does not act, CPS will be forced to end school 13 days early, which means over 380,000 kids will not have adult-supervised activities in June, and could possibly be put in harm’s way,” Chance added.
To combat that, Chance is donating $1 million to CPS to support arts and enrichment programming. The 3-time Grammy winner coordinated with Live Nation, AEG, Ticketmaster, and other independent promoters and venues across the country to use ticket sales from his upcoming tour as a means for raising funds.
You can (should!) also donate through the SocialWorks website. A big reason why you should definitely donate to Chance’s nonprofit is that because for every $100K they raise, SocialWorks will donate $10K to a specific Chicago public high school or elementary school.

Echo the words of Mr. Chancelor Bennett. Say it loud: “Governor Rauner, do your job!”

Chicago Public Schools and I did not lose today. Please don't let that become the narrative. Monday morning I'll have a plan.
