As if we could wait any longer, the wonderful Bay Area sensation, so eloquently putting into words what most of us struggle to articulate, has mastered yet another marvelous project. This debut album professes and affirms Kehlani’s self-love and empowerment to women all around. SweetSexySavage showcases her continued growth not only as an artist, but also as a person. It’s unapologetic and fierce, as we all should be. It’s a title that fits perfectly.
For the one that knows exactly what’s on everyones mind, this is our top five tracks from #SWEETSEXYSAVAGE:
“Do U Dirty”
Possibly my favorite track overall. I’m not quite sure how Kehlani never fails to deliver quite the impact on her audience. Her words are felt deeply through these compelling verses,
“Swear you’ll see the good in me, but that don’t beat the hood in me”
She’s giving fore warning to lovers of her slick ways, but potentially saying that you’ll keep trying for someone who won’t be trying as hard for you. You’ll be giving everything to someone who does nothing return. Once again, she refers to the toxic things (in this case, a human being) whom should be let go. It truly holds the key: you need to realized identify the problem & LET THEM GO.
“In My Feelings”
For the simp that I proudly claim to be, this was a no-brainer. Once you are ‘in your feelings,’ everything else is blurred at times. She feels that she’s giving more than receiving and the unbalance in this relationship is taking its toll.
‘Why after all these nights, I still give you all my days.’
When you’re in your feelings, oddly enough its hard to feel anything else at times. But, we all can relate to that one person that gets us in our feelings. It’s a track that creates an understanding for the ways and things that we do out of our control.
“Everything Is Yours”
I’m a strong believer that in every project lies a heartbreak track. For example, ‘Redemption’ on Views or Jungle on IYRTITL; this one takes the cake. This is exactly what every girl needs to hear. Kehlani absolutely pours her soul out on this track.
“At the end of the day, I’ll know you’re worse”
“Too Much”
By utilizing the clear sample of the late Aaliyah’s track ‘More than a woman’, right off bat it was clear this was going to trigger the heart and souls of many around. Yet again, she intensifies the importance of self worth and self love. In the end, you must know your worth.
“Tears of dishonesty, we could just part ways. Find out our own destiny”
Sometimes, you may be too good for people. But basing one’s own self importance off another’s opinion is the misleading fad that continues to shatter many. Her message is once again empowering as it is entertaining. Relatable nonetheless.
“Piece Of Mind”
At this point, everything I say seems redundant. For anyone that has needed to get to their peace of mind, it is attainable. It is possible. Not only does Kehlani want to leave this toxic piece of mind behind but also wants to reclaim her peace of mind. The growing talent of Kehlani never ceases to amaze us.
“Least I didn’t mess it up, that was all your touch. I don’t miss it much, But it made me who I am, I am.”

A notable from the album, that wasn’t even Kehlani, was track 1: ‘The Intro.’ The lovely poetic voice would be that of Reyna Biddy. It’s gotten the attention of many, which is no surprise. This track is highly recommended for all who are lost, found, or truly just taking it day by day.

Every track serves it’s purpose, and Kehlani mapped it out perfectly. This debut album will be one to remember.
