Spoon have finally released some new material, unveiling today “Hot Thoughts” along with announcing their new album with the same title. Their ninth studio album, Hot Thoughts, will be released on March 17 on Matador Records.
Speculation of a new Spoon record came about when the band sneak previewed Hot Thoughts material in a surprise hometown warm-up recently, and now we have confirmation that the new album is coming soon. The title track is glossy, with a colorful flair thanks to the layers of instruments intersecting and complementing each other.
To coincide with the release of their new album, Spoon will be participating in this year’s edition of SXSW in their hometown of Austin, TX. The band have announced a three-night release week SXSW residency from March 14-16 at The Main.
See below for Hot Thoughts track listing and details on the SXSW residency; you can also find the cover art for the new album after those details.
During the residency, Spoon will resurrect the original, classic Austin venue Emo’s location, currently referred to as The Main, Tuesday, March 14–Thursday, March 16. The band will curate a unique line up each night and will stubbornly be referring to the venue as “Eno’s” in honor of the band’s founding drummer and Austin stalwart Jim Eno.
