The Orwells Release 7-Minute Epic “Double Feature”

The Orwells have released a new track off their forthcoming album Terrible Human Beings. The album closer is a 7 minute-plus epic titled “Double Feature.” Halfway through the track it goes into a dizzyingly alluring instrumental, packed with an experimental groove.

I’ve listened to this song 5 times in a row and I just can’t get enough of the instrumental. The bass line just wraps itself around you and sucks you in for the guitars’ sweet-then-dirty assault. Throw in some howling vocals from Mario Cuomo and you got yourself some real Rock & Roll magic. Hear it below.

Guitarist Matt O’Keefe had this to say of the song:

Double Feature is like one of those stories that got passed around in email chains and AOL message boards a decade ago. You know, that kind of shit about having to send it to 5 more people or something will crawl outta the ground in your back yard and you’ll find the family dog at the bottom of the pool with the neon diving sticks or something. Chain mail – what a buncha junk! We made the end of the song a chain, it just keeps going and going, wrapping itself around and then coming back up again. We’re real fond of it.

Terrible Human Beings, is out 2/17 on Canvasback Music.

The band have also announced their initial run of 2017 tour dates, which will take them all across the country and the world. For those who may have forgotten the power of the band in a live setting, check out this video of Midwest Shitfest and our recap, two sold-out shows they self-produced in Chicago over the summer. The Orwells will be supporting the work of Off The Street Club, Chicago’s oldest boys and girls club. A portion of each ticket sold in the US will benefit the organization.
