Last week, I had the privilege of seeing The Cool Kids live in there first show together in many years. The amount of nostalgia that hit me was so ridiculous at times I almost had to take a step back to collect myself. Initially, I went into the show only excited to see the Cool Kids and left becoming a fan of two new artists. Here is my review of the epic moment in time that was the Cool Kids reunion show.
The Openers:
Femdot
I walked into Thalia hall about an hour late and was immediately greeted by Carolers in the lobby to add to the Christmas themed setting. Fittingly, the first song I heard was Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1 being played by the DJ, so I knew this night was already gonna be a classic. The first artist that hit the stage was femdot a local rapper from Chicago. I’ve heard his name around and his dope verse on Logan’s album, but I had not taken the time to listen to his music. I was honestly blown away by his performance, he held an energy and ability to maneuver the crowd that only a few young Chicago rappers are able to. Not to mention the songs that he played, where he went from serious songs about his past to upbeat tracks to even more chill hits. My favorite track he played was Totheoneoutsouth, where he sampled “My Boo” by Usher and that was the moment he turned me into a fan. S/o to this guy, he truly knows what production works for him and I’m really looking forward to his music in 2017. In the meantime, check out his music here.

Payroll Giovanni
The next artists was Payroll Giovanni, a rapper from Detroit who I also heard before, but hadn’t taken the time to listen to as much. Again, this act exceeded my expectations, as his music gave me an old school Cash Money vibe with a new school sound. Him and his crew rocked the stage for 30 min providing the perfect segue to the main act. His performance was so dope it made me go back and listen to all his work making me a fan of one of Detroit’s top talents. Check out my favorite song by him Forbes List and listen to his music here.
The Cool Kids
After the opening acts did their thing, the time came for The Cool Kids to finally hit the stage. They immediately had all of Thalia Hall up for grabs by performing some of their old classics like Black Mags and Running Man. It was at those moments I was taken back to my high school days of riding in my car feeling like the man blasting these hits. The nostalgia didn’t stop there, as one of my top moments was when they performed my favorite Cool Kids song “Mikey Rocks” and had the crowd going nuts. After going through the older tracks, Chuck and Sir Michael shifted to more recent songs such as their dope single Connect 4. The vibe that was felt at Thalia Hall was like no other, as people seemed overjoyed to finally see one of Chicago’s best duos make their comeback. I’m very excited to see what 2017 brings for them as they have a new album in the works. S/o to all the artists involved for putting on an amazing show on a brutally cold night in Chicago and also S/o to Fakeshoredrive who put it all together. Keep doing your thing, Chicago appreciates it. Lastly, Check out some clips from their set below to give you a sense of how crazy this night was.
