Dave Chappelle returned to mainstream TV last night as the guest host of Saturday Night Live. The comic genius was host of SNL for his very first time, and the stand-up legend kicked things off with a 10 minute monologue doing what he does best. The opening monologue largely focused on Donald Trump being elected president of our country, delivering the line “We’ve actually elected an internet troll as our president.” Chappelle also talked about why he’s going to ride out this Trump presidency with the benefit being a rich man considering the tax cuts coming his way. But it wasn’t all jokes, as Chappelle concluded his monologue talking about how Obama did a good job as leader of the free world and then shared a bit of history of African Americans and their relationship with the White House prior to Obama’s presidency. Finally, he left us with these sobering lines: “I’m wishing Donald Trump luck. And I’m going to give him a chance. And we the historically disenfranchised demand that he gives us one too.”
The rest of the show was highlighted by Chappelle reviving some of his best Chappelle’s Show characters in a The Walking Dead skit featuring Tyrone Biggums, Lil’ Jon, Clayton Bigsby, and Silky Johnson recreating the famous Negan scene. It contains spoilers!! See more below
