This past Thursday night at Concord Hall, Neon Indian lit up the crowd up with an amazing performance. Although Neon Indian is placed more so under the techno genre of music, the band showcased an incredible lyrical performance as well. The first song I ever heard by these guys was “Dead Beat Summer” off their 2010 album Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed. It’s hard to believe that song came out in 2010 and six years later it’s still one of my go to “feel good” songs. I think this is one of the reasons I became invested in this band, they make music that makes you feel good. I am always head boppin and shoulder droppin to one of their songs. It’s hard to not love these guys when they can make you move like that.
The band opened up with the song “Annie” off their new album Vega Intl. Night School. The song was a total crowd pleaser and one of the top songs on their newest album. They went onto play “Change of Coast” and “Slumlord” as well as quite a few others before wrapping up with their two wildly popular songs “Deadbeat Summer” and “Polish Girl.” I loved watching these guys play together. Each individual member had their own vibe going especially Alan Palomo, the lead singer of the band. This dude is so swanky. He was all over the stage dancing and moving, it was easy to tell he really loved what he was doing. He had such a great energy and the audience was loving every second of it. At one point the band covered “Cool Cat” by Queen, and it was unreal. Palomo was giving me major Prince vibes during this song in the way he was moving and his seriously impressive falsetto notes. The man is talented. You’ve got to watch this performance.
Something I really love about this band is there ability to produce these new age techno beats and some how manage to also sound like a hit song from the 80’s in the best of ways, if you don’t believe me just listen to Change of Coast. These guys have such an amazing style to their music and I think this show did them justice showcasing that.
Totally re-fell in love with this band after this night.
