Essentially, every project from Mick Jenkins delivers raw verses on unique beats and with time, every project has been better than the one before. All equally filled with great talent and motives. New album The Healing Component is no different. He recruits and works with a familiar bunch and then some. & although the entire album is heat, we had to pick out our top five from the bunch.
Find those below:
“Communicate” (ft. Raven Lenae)
This song in particular truly gives us an outlook on Mick’s love life. The title speaks for itself, as does the intro and outro, ‘Communication is key’.
These vibes can equally be compared to the groovy ones from Wave[s]. Vocals added on by the lovely Ravyn Lenae, only make it that much more enticing.
“Prosperity” (feat. theMind)
Whenever Mick gets with theMind, it’s usually absolute magic. Thankfully for us, the two blessed us with not one but three tracks on #TheHealingComponent. Although, they’re all good, I’d have to say “Prosperity” is my favorite, just because you get a verse from theMind, where he just goes in.
“Designer rags and conversations with fascists”
The two pretty much acknowledge how dire it is for people nowadays to care about materialistic things, but they also come to the realization of how much they, themselves, don’t need it. Also, while tying in the significance of the four letter word, LOVE.

“Spread Love”
Yes, this song started it all. And aside from that, Mick literally kills it on this track. It’s 3 minutes and fifty three seconds full of important keys that everyone could use. It also kicked off his spread love movement, which holds so much wisdom and knowledge behind the mantra.
So now instead of drinking more water, he’s got the voice to make society spread love. So here you have a six foot five Chicago guy, going crazy on bars… that are entirely about LOVE. Go crazy Mick.
“Angles” (featuring Noname & Xavier Omar)
Of course, this beaut had to be on our top 5. Mick teams up with the wonderful Noname, and her eloquent & power-hitting verses, as well as the Xavier Omar, with the soothing touch.
This entire track perfectly expresses how important self love is, and how everything in life derives from that. Everything in life circles back to yourself, as well as your own perspective. This Spread Love movement continues and it hits home. So relatable, so agreeable, Mick’s got me on this one as he completely breaks it down that you have to know yourself, before you claim you love yourself.
“Love, Robert Horry” (feat. J-Stock)
Ultimately, this song was too good. Again, the change up, the build up, the verses, Mick is just great. & He mentions one of my favorite movies, City of God.
“Or that n****** from City of God, I forget his name”
He reflects on his past and past albums as well. I’ve been rocking with him for a minute and he reflects briefly for past projects.
For those of you that may not know of Robert Horry, the clutch shooter, and a legendary name not many hear about. He’s one of the only players in the NBA to win rings with three different teams. Now, Rocket is the name of the main actor in City of God, I believe that Mick uses this as a gateway to show how important your name is, or isn’t. Or how overlooked it may be, regardless of your success.
Then the verse by J-Stock, just too good. The fellow Free Nation prodigy has gone on tour with Mick and his flows way too clean. Real good, real underrated.
Without a doubt, my favorite.
