This was our first year attending React’s Mamby On The Beach festival and we must say it was an amazing time. Oakwood Beach is a very cool location for a festival and the weather was perfect this past weekend. There was of ton of great acts at this years fest, so there was plenty of things to do on both days. Below we listed some of our favorite moments from both days.
Lupe Fiasco Brings Out Matthew Santos
Lupe Fiasco has performed in his hometown of Chicago countless times and we have been to a large number of those shows. Lupe was hands down one of the best performances of the entire fest. Lupe performed songs off of all of his albums but the definite stand outs were “The Show Goes On,” “Next To It” and a very special performance of “Superstar.” For his performance of “Superstar,” Lupe brought out fellow Chicagoan Matthew Santos that brought back many memories from their FNF days.
Kaytranada Puts On A Dope Set
One of the sets we looked forward to seeing at this years fest had to be Kaytranada. His recent project, 99.9,% is a must listen with many dope features from AlunaGeorge, Vic Mensa, Anderson .Paak, Craig David and many more. For those who haven’t listened to the project, seeing his set at Mamby was a great introduction to it. He played plenty of songs off of the project seamlessly blending the tracks together. A definite standout for me from his set had to be when he played “All Night” off of Chance’s Coloring Book. Completely forgot he produced that song.
Mayer Hawthorne Performs Alongside Full Band
Mayer Hawthorne has been a POD favorite for many years now, so to be able to see him at a festival in our hometown was a great experience. Mayer has been at at it for a while, as he mentioned during his set that he now has compiled 4 albums worth of material to work with. With that being said, he kept the talking short and just spread out some dope vibes alongside his full band. Looking forward to seeing Mayer perform sometime soon.
Lido Brings Out Chance The Rapper & Towkio
We were recently introduced to Lido’s “Crazy” visuals recently and we were instant fans. He was putting on a great set and was almost finishing up when we heard a familiar sound. It was none other then Chance The Rapper, who made a surprise appearance to perform his buzzing single, “No Problem.” It should’ve been expected he would bring someone out since he has production credits for Chano’s “Blessings” and Towkio’s “Heavy Only Knows.” This was for sure one of the best moments at Mamby.
