Pursuit of Dopeness loves Jamila Woods… We’ve been waiting for this album for awhile now & we’re so excited it’s out for everyone to hear. Listening to this album feels completely magical. Woods writes odes to Chicago.. healing.. love & gives a voice to those in pain. Jamila reminds you how beautiful it is to be Black. Wood’s has made an album completely full of beautiful songs. I’m completely in awe of this album. It’s raw, real and completely empowering. This album is so important for the culture right now. Wood’s is a true poet.. activist and beautiful musician.
“I won’t let you criticize my city like my skin.. it’s so pretty. If you don’t like it.. just leave it alone..”

Jamila on “HEAVN”
HEAVN is about black girlhood, about Chicago, about the people we miss who have gone on to prepare a place for us somewhere else, about the city/world we aspire to live in. I hope this album encourages listeners to love themselves and love each other. For black and brown people, caring for ourselves and each other is not a neutral act. It is a necessary and radical part of the struggle to create a more just society. Our healing and survival are essential to the fight.
