“If you’re not teaching, you’re not preserving the craft” is a quote I’ve heard sometime ago about the hip hop culture. Beats and Bars is a collective of students from Little Village Lawndale High School here in Chicago who released their first single and video today called, “Who They Wish I Was”. The track was produced by CashmoneyAP and features Bravo, Cee’Jay, Seloner and Akua who tell us that they will not become what society expects them to be as young men in this city. The video was shot and edited by Sense Hernandez of Beast Factory. Beats and Bars actually has the perfect person mentoring them in the local rhyming specialist, Navarro FKA Scheme. You can check out the video above and you can stream the track below as well as some episodes on how this project came about.
