Chicago’s The Hecks are the next band to keep an eye out for. This local outfit are transitioning from DIY notoriety to capturing audiences throughout the music landscape with the release of their debut album. The band packs a lot of sound in their Punk and Arts infused material.
According to the release:
The album was recorded by the band at guitarist Dave Vettraino’s house between July 2014 and January 2016 (on assorted tape machines of varying degrees of quality and working order.), and they worked to create an album that exists independently from their identity as a performing group, purposely juxtaposing content and non-content so that a listen through is an engaging balancing act between space and chatter.
“The Thaw” features buzzsaw guitars with a lot of drive, and the monotone vocals and the melodies they form complement these perfectly, reminiscent of old garage Punk. Look out for that chunky outtro! Listen to that one below.
