So Natalie Prass covered “Raining Blood.” Yup, THAT Slayer song! The iconic Thrash Metal song was Prass’ choice for The A.V. Club‘s “Undercover” series where artists have to choose from a random collection of songs to do a live cover at the A.V. offices.
On why this was her song of choice, Natalie P talked to Stereogum earlier this year about how growing up she had more of an affinity towards the music of Aaliyah and Janet Jackson but because the boys were more into Hardcore and Punk, she’d pretend to like it too, so this song was an easy choice as a nod to her past.
In all honesty, this cover is badass. Prass totally makes it her own with a grittier, Grunge-like approach that comes together beautifully and it almost feels like it’s Jazz. Check it out above.
The remaining songs are Beastie Boys, “Sabotage”; Cyndi Lauper, “She Bop”; Mighty Mighty Bosstones, “The Impression That I Get”; The Fixx, “One Thing Leads To Another”; and anything from GWAR.
