For the club’s 40th anniversary, the Portland Timbers have unveiled their 2015 primary kit honoring the historic mark. Most notably, the big update on this year’s shirt is the two-color chevron pattern which is inspired by the club’s triple-chevron crest and runs across the front of the chest.
Down on the jock tag (the lower left corner of the jersey) is a subtle reminder of the years of Timbers tradition with a “5/40” accompanied by the Timbers’ trademark axe. The “40” is a nod to the club’s 40 years of existence since 1975, the “5” represents the number of years the Timbers have been playing in MLS.
Another new element of this year’s primary shirt is the back neck, which features the Timbers wordmark for the first time. Also found on the new primary Portland Timbers jersey is the reference to the Timbers Army, the inside neck tape features the chant: “Let it rain. Let it pour. Let the Portland Timbers score.”
