Kid Cudi has been announced as the new bandleader for Comedy Bang! Bang! With current bandleader Reggie Watts leaving the show to take up the same role for the new iteration of The Late Late Show when James Corden takes over, it’s up to Cudi to provide unique beats and musical accompaniment for the IFC hit show.
Watts will be kicking off the new Late Late Show starting March 23, but will remain in the first 20 episodes of this season until June 5; Kid Cudi will officially take over as musical co-star a month later.
Before all that actually happens, Kid Cudi will make his first appearance on Comedy Bang! Bang! as a couch guest on February 20 and you can see a preview of his jam session with Reggie Watts for the show’s companion web series Reggie Makes Music above.
Scott Aukerman said of the news:
“I can’t wait to start this new chapter of Comedy Bang! Bang! with Kid Cudi… When he was on the couch, I knew he had charisma and star quality, but I thought he should move slightly camera right. Plus, my wife and I have been trying to have a kid for several years, and this is the next best thing.”
