Rage Against The Machine alum Tom Morello and System Of A Down lead singer Serj Tankian have connected to pay tribute to late Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads. Morello and Tankian combined forces to cover the iconic “Crazy Train.” This version mostly stays faithful to the original, with notable updates to the drumming and some minor effects on the classic guitar riff. Tankian sounds a tad bit off but it might have more to do with the guitars not playing at the same dB level as his vocals. The guitar solo is very Morello, and while steers a bit from the original, it fits with this rendition.
Rhoads tragically passed in 1982, at the height of the rise of Ozzy’s career as a solo artist, which itself owed a lot to Rhoads’ masterful guitar work.
The track will appear on an upcoming compilation, Immortal Randy Rhoads: The Ultimate Tribute. Hear it now over at Rolling Stone.
