It finally happened… Lionel Messi has broken the record for most goals ever in the Spanish league after scoring a hat-trick today against Sevilla. The previous record-holder was Telmo Zarra, who held the record for nearly 60 years after scoring 251 goals throughout his career.
Messi, just 27 years old and with several good years ahead of him, came into this match needing one goal to tie the historic mark and reached it with a phenomenal free kick. The record-breaking 252nd goal for Messi (seen above) came from a give-and-go play with Neymar that Lio had to slide for to get the ball into the back of the net. The Barça man added one more tonight to extend his tally, and however many goals he makes from now on in league play will be the mark to chase.
